Masterpieces of the Pola Museum of Art:
From Monet to Picasso and Chagall
 
This exhibition features some of the best works from some of the world’s most prominent artists who are often mentioned when speaking about the history of modern art from the latter half of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, starting from impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, and Gogh, to Picasso and Chagall, whose works are representative of 20th Century art.

Masterpieces of The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo’s Crafts Gallery
100 Years of Japanese Crafts (Temp)
 
Featuring selected masterpieces from the abundant collection of National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo’s Crafts Gallery, this exhibition follows 100 years of gorgeous Japanese craftwork from the modern era to contemporary times. It also introduces masterpieces from the masters of the Meji and Taisho period, to the avant-garde ceramics of the period after WWII and the excellent, yet creative works of contemporary times.

The Essence of Belgian Modern Art
From Ensor and Khnopff to Delvaux and Magritte (Temp)
 
Belgium is known as the “crossroads of Europe.” Belgian art has also been influenced by the diverse cultures and produced original exhibitions. This exhibition follows the path of Belgium’s modern art through symbolism, expressionism, surrealism, etc. focusing on Himeji City Museum of Art’s collection.

This exhibit features winners and chosen works from the art exhibitions that were displayed in the Shimane Prefecture Citizen’s Cultural Festival.

The 63rd
Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition
 
An exhibition of stringently selected pieces from seven fields of traditional Japanese crafts: ceramics, textiles, urushi work, metalwork, woodwork and bamboowork, dolls, and other work. Featuring the works of living national treasures, prize-winning pieces, and art created by local artists living in the San-in Region, this exhibition will display approximately 300 pieces created by craftsmen and women who pursue the highest-level of artistic skill and creativity.
 
 
 January 2nd (Mon) – February 6th (Mon), 2017
 
Shimane Art Museum Collection Exhibition
Ukiyo-e Masterpieces of SHINJÔ Collection
 
This exhibition displays a numerous of masterpieces created by SUZUKI Harunobu, KATSUSHIKA Hokusai, UTAGAWA Hiroshige, and KOBAYASHI Kiyochika from a collection of ukiyo-e prints that SHINJÔ Jirô, a businessman who was born in Matsue, had gathered. The works will be shown alongside Jiro Shinjo’s affectionate words about his own collection.

Thoughts of the Sea – Teiko Shiotani 1899-1988 (Temp)
 
Teiko Shitani (1899-1988) was a photographer whose photography represented the “geijutsu-shashin” known as pictorialism, which prospered from the end of the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period (1920's-30's). Focusing on his works before WWII, this exhibition details his life through a valuable collection that has not been exhibited in 80 years.
